Host your own event

We want Light the Night to spread into every community in Australia.  If there isn't a Light the Night event near you, please consider organising your own.

It can be as simple or elaborate as you like.

• We will help you by promoting it here on our website.
• We will also send you a ‘host kit’, including tips, posters, lanterns and information about how to bank the money you raise.
• We will give you the advice and support you need to help you to make your event as successful as possible.
• We will also provide fundraising kits to anyone who wants to raise funds.

Ideas for your gathering

• Invite people to gather at a park, beach, oval or hall.
• You can sell lanterns to people who turn up on the night, and hand them out to people who registered in advance.
• Hold a lighting ceremony with a short speech to explain what each coloured lantern means and then take a short night-time stroll and ask a photographer to capture it on camera.
• If you want to make it bigger, you could invite a local band, choir, or dance group to entertain everyone and organise food stalls or a service club sausage sizzle.
• You could have craft stalls and ask local businesses to donate marquees and your local radio presenter might like to be your MC.
