How do you raise funds?
Each team member is responsible for setting goals and raising funds. Ask coworkers, friends, neighbours and family members to back your team and support the cause. Teams can also raise funds by holding events.
How do I collect the money?
Each team member collects funds from their supporters and pays it in to the team captain. The team captain hands in the money to the Leukaemia Foundation. The best time to do this is at Pre-walk pick up a week before the event.
When is pre-walk pick up?
Pre-walk pick up is held during the week before Light the Night. It’s the best time to hand in your fundraising and for Team Captains to collect shirts for the whole team ready to wear at the event.
Is team membership limited to employees of a company?
No. Families, friends and neighbours can create teams. For company teams it’s a great reason to get together outside the workplace.
Does a company have to make a corporate donation to the team?
We encourage companies to make a donation to their team, but it’s not a requirement. Most of the donations will come from individual team members. A great way to support the team members is for the company to match every dollar the staff raises.
How do I get my balloon?
You collect your balloon from the Balloon Pick up tent at Light the Night.
Will we be releasing the balloon?
No. The balloons are filled with air so they cannot float away and they are attached to our special light fitting for you to carry them. You can take the balloon home or recycle it after the walk.
Can we print our own T shirts?
Yes, but you can only put the Light the Night logo on the back NOT the front. That’s reserved for our special shirts and incentives.
Can we bring a banner to carry?
Absolutely. Make sure it’s flexible enough to let you through narrower parts of the walk, and is not too heavy for people to carry!
How long is the walk?
Actual distances vary for each event, check out the website or map included in your kit. Most walks are 2 – 5 km which takes under an hour to complete at a leisurely pace. No particular level of fitness is required.
Are pets, pushers, bicycles or skateboards allowed?
Please call your local office on 1800 500 88 to check about pets. Pushers and wheelchairs are welcome – again check with the local office to be sure the route is suitable for you. For everyone’s safety, bicycles, inline skates or skateboards are not allowed.
What happens if it rains?
Light the Night is held rain or shine.
Is this the same as the Light the Night concert?
Light the Night is also the name of a benefit concert held in Sydney each October to raise money for leukaemia research.
Now in its fifth year, the concert has raised in excess of $200,000 for leukaemia research and all proceeds fund the Light the Night Research Grant for the Haematology Research Team at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney.
In previous years some of Australia's most talented artists including Human Nature, Tim Campbell, Anthony Callea, Lior, Katie Noonan and Emma Pask, to name a few, have performed - this year's cast will be no exception. For an up to date list of performers visit the concert’s website at www.lightthenight.com.au
