Policies and legal stuff

  • Is Light the Night covered by public liability insurance?

The Leukaemia Foundation has standard public liability insurance of $20 million which covers standard fundraising including Light the Night – as long as you stick to all the event policies.

If you are an Event Host, the Leukaemia Foundation has public liability insurance to cover your event.  You will be covered once you have received a letter from the Foundation confirming your authority to fundraise as well as a copy of the public liability certificate.

  • Why do I have to agree to the waiver?

It’s a requirement of our insurance cover that we have clear policies, and make everyone aware of the health and safety aspects of the event.  The risks with this event are very minor,  it’s really very safe as long as you use common sense and follow the policies in the “how to” guide on this site.

It’s also important that we have your permission to use any photos we take of you at a public event.

  • Is the $20 registration fee tax-deductible?

No, as you are receiving something in return for the fee, the ATO does not class this as a tax-deductible donation.  The registration fee covers the costs of staging Light the Night and gains you entry to your event, entertainment and, of course, your beautiful lantern to keep.  GST is included in the fee.
